MEDIA Internship Opportunity

Now Accepting Applications - MARKETING / MEDIA / PUBLIC RELATIONS Internship

Since 2011, JANE BEILES PHOTOGRAPHY has hosted interns interested in the fields of journalism, public relations, marketing, re-touching, photography, web design and art direction. 2024-2025 academic year interns will work directly with owner/founder Jane Beiles, Director of Media Sara Koch, and the senior office manager for a hands-on experience directly related to the launch and business development of our new Media Outreach division, JaneBeiles360.

Jane Beiles is a freelance photographer based in Fairfield. Ct, specializing in interiors, architecture, food and travel. A regular contributor to the New York Times since 2013, her work has also been published by The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe, Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, Luxe Magazine, HGTV Magazine and Elle Décor. among others, A 1991 graduate of the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor, Jane also had additional training at Parsons School of Design, Silvermine Art School and the International Center of Photography in New York City.

Sara Koch joined JBP as Director of Media after over 8 years as the owner and operator of a health and wellness business. Prior, she worked in public relations for ESPN The Magazine as well as the ESPN X Games and ESPN's Outdoor Games. A mother of four children and two dogs, Sara earned her bachelor's degree from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.

REQUIREMENTS:

Transportation to Fairfield, Connecticut main location

Laptop computer -with Adobe Software (available as a subscription download)

Demonstrated interest in marketing, journalism, public relations, visual arts of photography

Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop or willingness to learn

Commitment to work hard

Excellent interpersonal skills

JOB INFORMATION:

Location: Fairfiled, CT

Hours: Flexible - 5-30 hours/week - requires in-person for training, limited opportunities for remote projects only for candidates who can be in the office at least 3 hours a week in person.

Compensation: Our program requires approximately 100 hours of unpaid hands-on learning. We partner with academic instituions at the collegiate level, or in some circumstances, high school senior level, for academic credit for your internship or to fulfull the internship requirement for some college majors. Interns may be considered for a paid position upon successful completion of the unpaid segment.

Seven Years from Launch, New Canaan High School's Senior Internship Program Skyrockets

Seven years ago, the inaugural year of the Senior Internship Program, there were just twelve New Canaan High School seniors who signed up. Susan Carroll from the College and Career center organized the program, but it was not nearly as big as it is today because students seemed reticent to give up their last month with their peers to head out on an internship. With no precedent for the program or word of mouth referrals from older siblings or peers, it was a rare few who gave up their last weeks in the classroom to dip a toe into the job market. Today there are 269 senior interns, more than 22 times the size it was at inception.

A Tale of Ten Interns

Jane Beiles has been working with the Senior Internship Program from New Canaan High School for six consecutive years now, starting in 2012, and has brought in a total of ten student interns from New Canaan High School to train with her.
